Saara Lamberg
How come no one thought of conversion therapy for straight people, before Saara did? Saara is the force majeure behind CAMP THERAPY MOVIE that won Euphoria Foundations Storyteller or Media Maker of the Year 2026. CAMP THERAPY is Saara's fifth feature film and incorporates all queer and trans-lead cast and crew in a story that will explode to the public awareness soon. There have even been rumours that Saara appears as the Non-Cult leader ICON in the film. We reached Saara out for a comment: "I can confirm that CAMP THERAPY is Not a Cult. As for the other rumour, ICON is ICON so I don't know what you're talking about." When not writing, directing or producing films, Saara can be spotted performing (very gay) stand-up comedy or poems, organising (very gay) film festivals and events, serving as the Special Advisor at the Trans Women Society, giving (very gay) interviews, writing (very gay) publications, singing (very gay) songs with Keychange Choir and over all just spreading all sorts of gay propaganda by any means possible. Saara also has a secret life of running too far, learning musical instruments and volunteering in suicide prevention, but don't tell anyone, (it is a secret after all). HOT TIP: Do not invite Saara to a party unless you want the whole entourage to follow.
Saara Lamberg is recognised for groundbreaking work as the founding member, director, writer and producer of CAMP THERAPY, a feature film and creative collective celebrating trans and queer stories through authentic, community-led filmmaking. Described as Australia’s first trans-activist satire of its kind, CAMP THERAPY presents a trans-positive worldview, with trans people involved across the cast, crew and production. The film has already made history by winning Media Maker and Storyteller of the Year at the Euphoria Socials Awards before its release, creating opportunities to celebrate trans talent and bring positive, nuanced representations of trans lives to the screen.
What makes Saara’s contribution special is the ability to build a creative community from the ground up, without government funding or organisational backing, while creating space for others to grow as leaders. Through CAMP THERAPY, Saara has brought together trans and queer creatives, championed their talents and fostered an environment where people feel supported to take on new opportunities. The vision extends beyond the LGBTQIA+ community, with ambitions to bring the film to mainstream audiences through international film festivals and distribution. By pursuing a bold story in the current political climate, Saara is helping ensure trans and queer people are not only represented on screen but are empowered to tell their own stories.
Saara’s impact is reflected in a body of independent filmmaking that includes five feature films, multiple Australian and international awards, and sold-out film festivals demonstrating audiences’ appetite for stories beyond the mainstream. Through leading CAMP THERAPY’s successful crowdfunding campaign, Saara has helped secure the resources needed to bring the film to life and pursue its release to both gender-diverse and mainstream audiences. This work goes beyond filmmaking: it creates opportunities, strengthens community connections and celebrates the global trans and queer movement. By turning an ambitious vision into a collective creative achievement, Saara is helping shape a more inclusive future for Australian cinema and queer storytelling.
